Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher (DHH) Position Available
Alexandria, VA
We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Contracted Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to join our school district in Alexandria, VA. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with students from Pre-K through 12th grade who are deaf and hard of hearing, providing critical support and instruction.
Certification Requirement: VA Certification for DHH | Elementary ELA or Reading certification would be helpful
Hours: Full Time (36.25 hours/week)
Grades: Pre-K – 12th
Duties:
- Provide IEP services to students who are deaf and hard of hearing
Additional details will be provided during a Zoom interview directly with the district.
Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Collaborate with colleagues, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to ensure an inclusive learning environment.
- Monitor and assess student progress, making data-driven decisions to guide instruction.
- Maintain accurate records, including IEP documentation and progress reports.
- Foster a supportive classroom atmosphere that promotes student engagement and growth.
- Act as an advocate for students, ensuring that their educational needs are met.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in DHH education.
- Collaborate with families to promote student success and address their concerns.
Qualifications:
- Valid VA Certification for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teaching.
- Elementary ELA or Reading certification would be helpful.
- Strong knowledge of DHH education, including knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Dedication to providing high-quality education and support to students with hearing loss.
