We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Contracted Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to join our school district in Alexandria, VA. This position offers a unique opportunity to work with students from Pre-K through 12th grade who are deaf and hard of hearing, providing critical support and instruction.

Certification Requirement: VA Certification for DHH | Elementary ELA or Reading certification would be helpful

Hours: Full Time (36.25 hours/week)

Grades: Pre-K – 12th

Duties:

  • Provide IEP services to students who are deaf and hard of hearing

Additional details will be provided during a Zoom interview directly with the district.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf and hard of hearing.
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) to meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, paraprofessionals, and related service providers to ensure an inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, making data-driven decisions to guide instruction.
  • Maintain accurate records, including IEP documentation and progress reports.
  • Foster a supportive classroom atmosphere that promotes student engagement and growth.
  • Act as an advocate for students, ensuring that their educational needs are met.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in DHH education.
  • Collaborate with families to promote student success and address their concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Valid VA Certification for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teaching.
  • Elementary ELA or Reading certification would be helpful.
  • Strong knowledge of DHH education, including knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication modalities.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Dedication to providing high-quality education and support to students with hearing loss.
