Hours: Full-time

Caseload: Approximately 9 Preschool students; 4 three-year-olds and 5 four-year-olds. The 3-year-olds will go home midday, and the 4-year-olds leave later in the afternoon.

Responsibilities:

As a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher, you will be responsible for providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment for preschool students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Your role will involve developing and implementing tailored lesson plans, incorporating appropriate teaching strategies to accommodate the unique needs of each child.

Key Duties:

  1. Curriculum Development: Design and implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities to meet the educational goals of preschool students.

  2. Adaptation and Modification: Create and adapt teaching materials to ensure accessibility and engagement for students with hearing impairments.

  3. Individualized Instruction: Provide one-on-one and small group instruction, addressing the individualized learning needs of each student.

  4. Collaboration: Collaborate with other educators, specialists, and parents to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.

  5. Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Regularly assess students' progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly. Maintain accurate records of student performance.

  6. Communication: Foster effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues. Utilize alternative communication methods, such as sign language or visual aids, as needed.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  2. Teaching certification with a focus on Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education.
  3. Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) or other relevant communication methods.
  4. Previous experience working with preschool-aged children, especially those with hearing impairments.
  5. Strong organizational and communication skills.
  6. Ability to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
