Soliant Schools is searching for an experienced Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for a contract position near Thousand Oaks, California. They are looking for an Experienced Deaf Education Teacher to add to their team, however, new graduates are welcome and encouraged to apply. This is a full time position providing itinerant services to a 6th-12th grade case load.

You will provide case management and coordinate a program of services to Deaf/Hearing-Impaired students and other eligible students. Deliver individual, direct and consultative services to students who are deaf or hearing-impaired or who have other disabilities in the least restrictive environment as required by the Individual Educational Plan (IEP).  Assist general education teachers in planning differentiated instruction that meets the needs of individual students in the core curriculum. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to write and implement instructional appropriate IEP’s leading to positive outcomes for students with disabilities and facilitate IEP meetings.
  • Experience with administration and interpretation of standardized assessments and alternative assessments.
  • Good organizational skills; good communication skills to facilitate teaching, assessment, meeting and data management responsibilities such as Easy IEP.
  • Possess good technology skills to facilitate implementation of academic and/or behavior intervention programs and working with a wide variety of technology platforms.
  • Willingness to work within programming areas as a collaborative team member.
  • Possess a Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Deaf Education or similar area of study
  • Meet California State Department of Education certification requirements for Teacher of the Deaf/Hearing-Impaired and prefer the additional certifications of Special Education Modified K-12 or Special Education Comprehensive K-12
  • Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to use sign language to communicate for self and others 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with GE and SPED teachers and support other staff members (ie. ASL Interpreters and Signing Paraprofessionals).
  • Work with DHH students individually and in small groups providing IEP services and academic support.
  • Prepare IEPs, manage, report, and update progress appropriately on timelines established, and attend IEP meetings.
  • Prepare activities and material for services and student needs per IEP goals.
  • Observe students in class and provide feedback to classroom teachers.
  • Co-teach with SPED teachers as established.
  • Create, arrange, and maintain a schedule that fulfills the IEP needs of students.
  • Reserve rooms for services (will be established).
  • Establish and maintain school site relationships.

Work Hours

  • 35 guaranteed hours per week (7.5 hours per day, 30 min unpaid lunch), Monday- Friday
  • There are 18 students on the caseload across 3 middle schools and 3 high schools. 
  • There are also 9 x 504 plan students who are monitored or receive monthly consultations/check-ins
  • There is a co-teaching model in the Functional Skills class at the HS where there are 5 Deaf+ students.
