Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher

Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Teacher to join our team at [School Name/District] in Midval, WY. The DHH Teacher will provide specialized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they have access to a quality education and can fully participate in the school community. Responsibilities include developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), providing direct instruction in American Sign Language (ASL) and auditory/oral communication skills, and collaborating with colleagues and families to support student success.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field.
  • Valid teaching license with a specialization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education from the state of Wyoming.

Certifications:

  • Certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education from the state of Wyoming.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, including goals, objectives, and accommodations.
  • Provide direct instruction in American Sign Language (ASL) and auditory/oral communication skills, as well as academic content areas such as language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
  • Adapt curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing, including use of assistive technology and communication devices.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and other related service providers to support students' communication, academic, and social-emotional development.
  • Provide support and guidance to students, families, and school staff on issues related to deafness and hearing loss, including advocacy and access to resources.
  • Monitor and assess student progress towards IEP goals, and make data-driven decisions to inform instruction and intervention planning.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, behavior, and attendance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field.
  • Valid teaching license with a specialization in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education from the state of Wyoming.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred.
  • Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of deaf culture, communication modalities, and best practices in Deaf Education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and community partners.
