Key Responsibilities:
- Individualized Instruction: Develop and implement tailored lesson plans that meet the unique needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring access to the general education curriculum.
- Communication Strategies: Utilize various communication methods, including sign language, to effectively engage students and facilitate their learning.
- Collaboration: Work closely with parents, teachers, and support staff to create and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and support student progress.
- Assessment and Reporting: Conduct assessments to evaluate student progress and provide regular feedback to families and the school community.
- Advocacy and Awareness: Promote awareness and understanding of Deaf culture and the needs of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing within the school community.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree is a plus.
- Certification: Valid New York State teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing is essential.
- Experience: Previous experience working with students who are Deaf or hard of hearing is preferred.
- Skills: Strong communication, patience, and organizational skills, with the ability to build rapport with students and collaborate effectively with a team.
