We are seeking an educator who is passionate about supporting students with hearing impairments through specialized instruction, communication access, and collaborative services. Position Overview
The DHH Teacher will provide direct and consultative services to students with hearing loss across school settings. This role focuses on supporting communication, language development, auditory skills, academic progress, and access to the general curriculum.
Minimum Requirements (State & Local Requirements)
Applicants must meet all Oregon state and district qualifications, including:
Education & Certification

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Deaf Education or a related field.

Valid Oregon Teaching License issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC).

Appropriate endorsement in Deaf/Hard of Hearing Education (or eligibility to obtain).

Completion of a state-approved teacher preparation program in Deaf Education.

Demonstrated proficiency in communication modalities used by students (ASL, spoken language, Total Communication, etc.), as required by the district.

Professional Skills

Strong understanding of hearing loss, amplification devices (hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems), and educational accommodations.

Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with families.
Typical Responsibilities
-
Provide direct instruction to students with hearing impairments based on IEP goals, focusing on language, auditory skills, literacy, and academic support.

Conduct assessments and contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Support and troubleshoot hearing technology, including cochlear implants, hearing aids, and assistive listening devices.

Consult with general education teachers, special educators, interpreters, and related service providers to ensure curriculum access.

Adapt instructional materials and provide strategies to enhance communication and comprehension.

Facilitate student self-advocacy skills and communication independence.

Participate in IEP meetings, progress reporting, and district professional development.
