This position offers an opportunity to work as a Teacher specializing in Deaf and Hard of Hearing students within a K-12 educational setting. The role involves providing tailored instruction and support to students with hearing impairments, fostering their academic growth and social development through specialized teaching strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Utilize a variety of instructional methods and technologies to support accessible learning
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and support staff to create an inclusive educational environment
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting strategies as needed
- Provide guidance on communication skills, including sign language and auditory techniques
- Participate in professional development related to deaf education and hearing impairment
Desired Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure in teaching students who are deaf or hard of hearing
- Experience in K-12 educational settings with this student population
- Strong knowledge of communication modalities such as American Sign Language (ASL) and assistive listening devices
- Ability to adapt curriculum and assessments to meet diverse learning needs
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff
Location: Tacoma, Washington
This is a contract position for the current school year, offering a chance to make a significant impact on the educational experience of students with hearing challenges.
