Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of students who are deaf and hard of hearing? Do you possess the skills to provide specialized instruction and support to empower these students to reach their full potential? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join our team for the upcoming 2023-2024 school.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized educational instruction to students who are deaf and hard of hearing, fostering their academic, social, and emotional development.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs, ensuring access to the curriculum and promoting their educational growth.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, speech therapists, and other professionals to create an inclusive learning environment and facilitate successful communication strategies.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methods, resources, and assistive technologies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary to address challenges and promote achievement.
  • Foster a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere that encourages communication, independence, and self-advocacy among students.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field.
  • Valid teaching license or certification in Deaf Education or Special Education (Virginia certification preferred, but not required).
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other relevant communication modalities.
  • Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, particularly within the specified age groups.
  • Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and their implementation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Patient, empathetic, and passionate about fostering an inclusive learning environment.
