Position: DHH Teacher (Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing)
Location: San Francisco, CA
Contract Term: 2024-2025 School Year
Job Description: We are seeking a passionate and qualified DHH Teacher to join our team for the upcoming 2024-2025 school year in San Fran. As a DHH Teacher, you will provide specialized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they have access to quality education and equal opportunities for learning.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, addressing their specific educational needs.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in various academic subjects, using appropriate teaching methods and strategies for deaf and hard of hearing students.
- Utilize assistive technology and instructional materials to enhance communication and facilitate learning for students.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and parents to promote inclusive practices and ensure students' success in the general education setting.
- Conduct assessments and evaluate students' progress, adjusting instructional strategies and accommodations as needed.
- Teach and reinforce sign language and other communication skills to students, as appropriate.
- Stay informed about the latest research and best practices in deaf education and incorporate them into instructional planning.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and IEP documentation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Valid state teaching certification or licensure with specialization in Deaf Education or eligibility for certification in California.
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing is preferred.
- Knowledge of various communication modalities and teaching methods used in deaf education, including sign language.
- Familiarity with assistive technology and its application in supporting students with hearing loss.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
