Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher Job Duties

• Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in individual and group settings

• Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet students’ communication needs

• Support the use of assistive technology, amplification devices, and visual communication strategies

• Collaborate with teachers, interpreters, administrators, and families to support student success

• Monitor and document student progress toward educational goals

• Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions

• Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations

Federal and State Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field from an accredited program

• Current Maryland state certification/licensure as a DHH Teacher (or eligibility)

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) preferred

• Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and other applicable education laws

• Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills

• Fingerprinting and background clearance as required by Maryland school districts
