Grade Levels: K–12 (placement based on student needs)
Employment Type: Contract (Full-Time)
Hourly Pay: $30-$35/hour (based on experience and credentials)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to provide specialized educational services to students with hearing impairments across K–12 grade levels in Manatee County for the 2025–2026 school year. The DHH teacher will work in collaboration with school staff, families, and service providers to support students in accessing the general curriculum while addressing their unique communication, language, and learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s hearing, language, and academic needs

Provide direct instruction in academic, communication, and self-advocacy skills

Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum and support inclusion

Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals

Utilize a variety of communication modalities based on individual student needs (e.g., spoken language, sign language, cued speech, assistive technology)

Coordinate with audiologists, interpreters, speech-language pathologists, and other service providers

Promote an accessible and inclusive learning environment for students with hearing loss

Provide consultation and training to staff and families regarding hearing loss and accommodations

Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district special education regulations and documentation
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field

Valid Louisiana teaching certification with appropriate endorsement in Deaf/Hard of Hearing

Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a school-based setting preferred

Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods as needed

Strong collaboration, communication, and classroom management skills

Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learner needs and language modalities
