Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH Teacher) to join a school district in Nashville, TN. In this role, you will provide specialized instruction and support to students with varying degrees of hearing loss, helping them access the curriculum, build communication skills, and achieve academic success. You will collaborate closely with general education teachers, families, and related service providers to create an inclusive learning environment that meets each student’s needs.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in individual and small group settings

Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s unique needs
-
Adapt curriculum and classroom materials to support language development, literacy, and communication skills
-
Collaborate with teachers, speech-language pathologists, interpreters, and other professionals to ensure student success

Support students’ use of hearing aids, FM systems, cochlear implants, and assistive technology
-
Communicate regularly with families to foster home-school partnerships
-
Maintain compliance with state and federal special education regulations
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field

Valid Tennessee teaching certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (or eligibility upon hire)

Strong knowledge of auditory/oral, total communication, or ASL-based methodologies
-
Previous experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students in school settings preferred
-
Must pass background and fingerprinting checks
