Local Candidates (Hourly Pay): $52-$60
Travel Candidates (Weekly Take-Home Pay): $1732-$1967

Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMS) Job Duties

Conduct assessments and develop individualized orientation and mobility plans for students with visual impairments

Provide instruction in safe travel techniques, use of mobility aids, and environmental navigation

Collaborate with teachers, families, and other service providers to support student independence
-
Monitor and document student progress, adjusting interventions as needed

Participate in IEP meetings and provide professional recommendations
-
Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal requirements
Federal and State Requirements
-
Master’s degree or relevant certification in Orientation and Mobility from an accredited program
-
Certification as a COMS (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) preferred or eligibility required
-
Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and other applicable education laws
-
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
-
Fingerprinting and background clearance as required by Florida school districts
