Role Overview

We are seeking a qualified and passionate Itinerant Teacher for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) to provide services across schools in the Mount Prospect area. This is a full-time leave replacement role running from early December through mid-February.

The itinerant teacher will travel to multiple buildings, deliver direct and consultative services, and support students with hearing impairments in inclusive and specialized settings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individual and small-group instruction tailored to students with hearing loss

  • Consult and collaborate with general and special education teachers, support staff, and administrators to adapt instruction for students with hearing needs

  • Manage, monitor, and troubleshoot hearing assistive technology (HAT), amplification systems, FM/remote mic systems

  • Conduct classroom observations, ensure acoustic access, and make environmental recommendations

  • Participate in IEP meetings, assist in writing goals and accommodations/ modifications

  • Provide in-services and training to staff about hearing loss, communication strategies, and device usage

  • Coordinate referrals and supports across departments (speech, audiology, special educators)

  • Collect and analyze data on student progress, technology usage, and instructional access

  • Liaise with families, external service providers, and the school system to ensure continuity of services

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Credentialed as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing or equivalent certification recognized in Illinois

  • Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, including use of amplification and assistive listening systems

  • Strong knowledge of instructional strategies for auditory, speech, and language development

  • Ability to travel between schools (itinerant model)

  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and consultative skills

  • May require passing background check / fingerprinting as per state & district regulations
