Teacher of the Deaf | Washington Navy Yard, District of Columbia
A specialized opportunity is available for an experienced educator skilled in supporting students who are Deaf/Blind at the kindergarten level. This contract position is based in Washington Navy Yard, DC, and requires in-person engagement with the student to provide tailored educational support.
Key Qualifications:
- Expertise as a Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist or Teacher with experience serving Deaf/Blind students
- Strong knowledge of communication strategies and educational techniques for Deaf/Blind learners
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team to implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Flexibility to provide 4 hours of instruction monthly, plus compensatory education hours as needed
- Commitment to in-person instruction and collaboration
Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction to a kindergarten student with Deaf/Blind disability, focusing on communication, literacy, and functional skills
- Partner with parents, therapists, and other educators to support the student’s development and progress
- Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the student’s individualized education plan
- Ensure all services meet compliance and best practice standards for deaf/blind education
