Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) in Washington, DC
This opportunity is to support a Kindergarten student who is deaf and blind in a middle school setting located in Washington, DC. The position is a contract role lasting the current school year (CSY) and requires in-person presence. The assignment involves approximately 4 hours per month, with additional compensatory education (comp ed) hours as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instructional support tailored to a deaf/blind student in a middle school environment
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to adapt curriculum and communication methods
- Facilitate effective communication using appropriate techniques and tools for students with dual sensory impairments
- Monitor the student's progress and adjust strategies to ensure educational goals are met
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student performance and accommodations
Qualifications:
- Experience working as a Teacher or Specialist in Deaf/Hard of Hearing educational services
- Knowledge of instructional strategies for students with combined deafness and blindness
- Ability to work onsite in an educational setting within Washington, DC
- Strong communication skills and teamwork orientation
- Flexibility to accommodate monthly scheduling and compensatory education requirements
