Typical Job Duties:

• Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, either individually or in small groups.

• Support general education teachers and staff in understanding and accommodating the needs of students with hearing loss.

• Collaborate with IEP teams, including parents, special education staff, and related service providers, to ensure students’ educational goals are met.

• Use assistive technology and adaptive equipment as needed to support students’ access to the curriculum.

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and maintain accurate documentation.

• Conduct assessments and progress monitoring to inform instruction.

Education and Licensure Requirements:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field from an accredited program.

• Active Virginia state certification or license for DHH education, or eligibility to obtain one prior to the start date.

• Knowledge of IDEA and ADA regulations.

• Proficiency in sign language and/or experience with assistive technology is a plus.

• Prior experience working in a school-based setting is preferred.
