Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) - Elgin, IL
A school district in Elgin, IL, is seeking a qualified specialist to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students across two elementary schools—Prairie Point Elementary and Churchill Elementary. This contract position offers the opportunity to work directly with students who require specialized instruction and support in managing hearing impairments within the school setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored educational support and instruction to students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt lesson plans and materials that meet the needs of Deaf/Hard of Hearing students.
- Conduct assessments and monitor student progress, adjusting strategies to promote academic success.
- Facilitate communication between students, families, and school staff to ensure accessible learning environments.
- Utilize specialized technology and resources pertinent to Deaf education.
- Split teaching responsibilities between Prairie Point Elementary and Churchill Elementary, ensuring consistency and continuity of services.
Qualifications:
- Certification or licensure as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist or teacher.
- Previous experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students in an educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of educational strategies tailored to hearing-impaired learners.
- Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel and families.
- Flexibility to manage a split schedule between two elementary schools.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
