Remote DHH Teacher Position - Elementary Focus - Grand Rapids, MI
Join our specialized education team as a remote Deaf and Hard of Hearing teacher, providing comprehensive educational services to students with hearing impairments in virtual learning environments. Position Overview This remote teaching role involves working 35-37.5 hours per week with a caseload of 45-55 students across elementary grade levels. You'll deliver specialized instruction through virtual platforms, focusing on language development, academic skills, and communication strategies. Our DHH teachers work collaboratively with general education teams to ensure inclusive learning experiences for all students.
Primary Teaching Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments
- Provide direct instruction in language arts, mathematics, and content areas using visual learning strategies
- Teach communication skills including sign language, speech reading, and auditory training
- Conduct virtual assessments and progress monitoring for academic and communication goals
- Collaborate with audiologists, speech therapists, and other specialists
- Support mainstream inclusion through consultation and co-teaching models
- Create accessible digital learning materials and visual supports
Student Support Areas
- Pre-linguistic and early language development
- Academic vocabulary building across subject areas
- Reading comprehension and literacy skills
- Mathematical concepts using visual-spatial approaches
- Social skills development and peer interaction
- Self-advocacy and independence training

Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
- Active Michigan DHH teaching licensure (or ability to obtain)
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching students with hearing impairments in school settings
- Proficiency in American Sign Language and deaf culture knowledge
- Experience with virtual teaching platforms and educational technology
- Strong understanding of hearing loss impact on learning and development
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual-bicultural approach experience
- Cochlear implant and hearing aid technology knowledge
- Experience with diverse communication modalities
- Background in early intervention or family support services
- Training in visual learning strategies and accommodations
