DHH Special Education Teacher - Remote Learning - Lexington, KY

Assignment Details This full-time remote position involves 35-37.5 hours of weekly instruction serving 42-58 students in virtual classroom settings. You'll work with students from elementary through high school levels, adapting curriculum and teaching methods to meet diverse communication needs and learning styles. Our DHH educators are essential team members in ensuring equitable access to quality education.
Key Instructional Responsibilities
- Implement research-based DHH teaching methodologies in virtual environments
- Develop visual learning materials and interactive digital content
- Provide direct instruction in academic subjects using culturally responsive practices
- Conduct language assessments and monitor communication skill development
- Support students in mainstream classes through consultation and accommodation planning
- Facilitate family engagement and provide home-school communication support
- Participate in professional development and continuing education activities
Student Population Served
- Students with varying degrees of hearing loss from mild to profound
- Cochlear implant users requiring auditory skill development
- Sign language users needing bilingual-bicultural approaches
- Students with multiple disabilities including hearing impairment
- Mainstreamed students requiring itinerant support services
- Transition-age students preparing for post-secondary experiences
Mandatory Qualifications
- Master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or closely related field
- Valid Kentucky teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education
- 2+ years of professional teaching experience with DHH student populations in school settings
- Fluency in American Sign Language with cultural competency
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in virtual learning environments
- Strong collaboration and consultation skills for team-based service delivery
Preferred Experience
- Dual certification in general and special education
- Experience with early intervention or family-centered services
- Knowledge of hearing technology and assistive listening devices
- Background in curriculum adaptation and universal design principles
- Training in trauma-informed practices for students with disabilities
