Virtual DHH Teacher - Comprehensive Services - Reno, NV
We're looking for an experienced Deaf and Hard of Hearing teacher to provide remote educational services for students with hearing impairments across various academic levels. This position combines direct instruction, consultation, and family support services, offering the flexibility of home-based work while maintaining meaningful connections with students and educational teams.
Role Overview Work 35-37.5 hours weekly serving 44-52 students through virtual platforms, providing specialized instruction and support services tailored to individual communication needs and learning styles. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive educational programming while maintaining the highest standards of DHH education practice.
Primary Service Responsibilities
- Provide direct virtual instruction using evidence-based DHH teaching practices
- Develop and implement visual learning strategies across academic content areas
- Support communication skill development through structured language activities
- Collaborate with related service providers including SLPs, audiologists, and counselors
- Conduct virtual home visits and family consultation services
- Participate in IEP development, implementation, and progress monitoring
- Maintain current knowledge of deaf education research and best practices
Educational Focus Areas
- Early literacy development using visual phonics and sight word strategies
- Mathematical concept development through manipulatives and visual representations
- Content area instruction with emphasis on vocabulary and concept development
- Social skills training and peer interaction facilitation
- Self-advocacy skill building and independence promotion
- Technology integration for communication access and academic support
- Transition planning and post-secondary preparation activities
Essential Qualifications
- Master's degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or related field
- Active Nevada teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education
- 2+ years of professional experience teaching students with hearing loss in school environments
- Demonstrated competency in sign language and deaf cultural awareness
- Experience with virtual service delivery and remote teaching methodologies
- Strong interpersonal skills for family engagement and team collaboration
Preferred Professional Background
- Experience serving students with additional disabilities beyond hearing loss
- Knowledge of hearing aid and cochlear implant technology
- Background in early childhood special education or early intervention
- Training in positive behavioral interventions and supports
- Experience with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations
