DHH Teacher Job Duties

Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing

Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to students’ communication needs
-
Utilize appropriate communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL), total communication, or auditory-oral approaches
-
Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, families, and related service providers
-
Monitor and document student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed
-
Assist with assistive listening devices and technology integration
-
Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations
Federal and State Requirements
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
-
Florida state certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (or eligibility)
-
Proficiency in ASL or other recognized communication methods preferred
-
Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and other applicable education laws
-
Strong communication, instructional, and collaboration skills
-
Fingerprinting and background clearance as required by Florida school districts
