DHH Teacher Job Duties

• Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing

• Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to students’ communication needs

• Utilize appropriate communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL), total communication, or auditory-oral approaches

• Collaborate with general education teachers, administrators, families, and related service providers

• Monitor and document student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed

• Assist with assistive listening devices and technology integration

• Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations

Federal and State Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field

• Florida state certification/licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (or eligibility)

• Proficiency in ASL or other recognized communication methods preferred

• Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and other applicable education laws

• Strong communication, instructional, and collaboration skills

• Fingerprinting and background clearance as required by Florida school districts
