Teacher of the Deaf | Washington, District of Columbia
A full-time Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist position is available for the 2025-2026 school year at an early childhood school in Washington, DC. This contract role focuses on providing specialized support to a preschool student with sensorineural hearing loss in both ears. The ideal candidate will possess fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) to effectively communicate and foster a positive learning environment for the student.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing individualized education plans tailored to the student’s needs
- Providing direct ASL instruction and support to facilitate language acquisition and communication
- Collaborating with educators, therapists, and families to create an inclusive classroom experience
- Monitoring student progress and adapting teaching strategies accordingly
- Assisting in the evaluation and management of hearing devices and accommodations
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is essential
