    Requirements:  Education:

    You need a bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field.

    Licensure:

    You must have a valid Kansas teaching license (either in general or special education).

    Add the TOD endorsement to your existing license.

    Exam:

    Pass the Praxis exam for "Education of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students."

    Sign Language:

    You may need to complete some American Sign Language (ASL) coursework and show basic proficiency in ASL.
     

What We're Looking For:
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in an elementary school setting preferred 

What You'll Do:
  • Provide sign language interpretation services for students in a school setting
  • Assist in classroom instruction and activities by interpreting spoken language into sign language
  • Support students in understanding and participating in classroom discussions and activities
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure effective communication
  • Help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for students with hearing impairments
