Teaching Responsibilities

Central to your role is developing and implementing individualized education programs that address both academic goals and communication development for students with hearing impairments. You'll create dynamic virtual lessons that maximize visual learning opportunities while incorporating appropriate assistive technologies and communication modalities.

Family engagement remains a priority as you maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers about student progress and educational strategies. You'll facilitate virtual IEP meetings, conduct parent conferences, and collaborate with families to support learning both during scheduled instruction and in home environments.

Ongoing assessment and data collection focus on tracking both academic progress and communication skill development using tools appropriate for DHH students. You'll monitor achievement in language development, adjust instructional approaches based on hearing levels, and maintain detailed documentation while ensuring compliance with special education requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful candidates must hold current New Mexico DHH teaching licensure and possess a Master's degree in Deaf Education or related field from an accredited college or university. We require at least two years of classroom teaching experience specifically with students who have hearing impairments.

Fluency in American Sign Language and understanding of various communication approaches used with DHH students are required. Knowledge of assistive hearing technologies, visual learning principles, and deaf culture awareness will enhance your effectiveness in virtual environments.

While previous virtual teaching experience is advantageous, we welcome DHH educators eager to learn new technologies and adapt their skills to online instruction. Strong organizational abilities and creativity in problem-solving help you address the unique challenges and opportunities of remote DHH education.
