VocoVision is hiring a certified Deaf and Hard of Hearing educator to provide remote specialized instruction to Michigan students. Our teleteaching platform supports effective delivery of DHH services while allowing you to work from your own space. This position offers the chance to make meaningful impact on students' communication development and academic success through distance learning!
The role involves serving 40-45 students across elementary and middle school grade levels, you'll work 36 hours weekly delivering direct instruction, consultation, and support services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing! Your caseload will include students with diverse hearing levels, communication preferences, and educational needs. Some students may be learning through listening and spoken language while others use sign language or combined communication approaches.
Core Responsibilities
Specialized instruction focuses on developing auditory skills, language comprehension and expression, speech intelligibility, and self-advocacy abilities. You'll also provide academic support to help students access grade-level content in reading, math, writing, and other subject areas. Lessons incorporate visual learning strategies, captioning, assistive technology, and other accommodations that maximize accessibility in the virtual environment!
Teacher consultation is a major component - you'll partner with general education teachers to create inclusive classrooms that meet DHH students' needs through environmental modifications, instructional accommodations, and communication strategies... Regular check-ins ensure accommodations are being implemented effectively and students are fully participating in classroom activities.
Assistive technology support includes troubleshooting hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems, and other devices students use to access auditory information. You'll coordinate with audiologists and provide guidance to families and school teams about optimal device settings and maintenance!! Progress monitoring through ongoing assessment informs instruction and demonstrates growth toward IEP goals.
Family engagement involves regular communication about student progress, coaching parents on language facilitation techniques, and supporting families in understanding their child's hearing loss and educational needs. IEP meeting participation allows you to contribute specialized expertise to educational planning and goal development.
Must Have:
- Current Michigan Deaf and Hard of Hearing teaching certification
- Master's degree in Deaf Education or related field
- Minimum two years school experience with DHH students
- Knowledge of auditory development, language acquisition, hearing technology
- Experience with diverse communication methodologies
- Proficiency with virtual teaching tools and platforms
- Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
