Location: Boulder, Colorado
Employment Type: Full-time (37.5 hours/week)
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Term: August 5, 2025 - November 7, 2025 (with potential for extension into December)
Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to cover a leave of absence for the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year. This full-time role involves providing specialized instruction and support to a diverse caseload of students across various grade levels. The ideal candidate will be passionate about empowering students with hearing impairments to achieve their full academic and social potential within an inclusive school environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, individualized, and small-group instruction to DHH students (PK-8th grade) based on their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to the unique communication and learning needs of students with hearing loss.
- Utilize a variety of communication modalities, which may include American Sign Language (ASL), spoken language, auditory-verbal strategies, and assistive listening devices, as appropriate for each student.
- Collaborate effectively with general education teachers, special education staff, interpreters, audiologists, families, and other service providers to ensure coordinated support and student success.
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and participate in IEP meetings.
- Adapt classroom materials and environmental acoustics to optimize learning for DHH students.
- Educate and consult with school staff regarding the needs of DHH students and effective communication strategies.
Caseload:
- Approximately 7-10 students
- Grade levels: Preschool (PK) through 8th Grade
Qualifications:
- Valid Colorado Teaching License with an endorsement in Special Education Specialist: Deaf and Hard of Hearing (or equivalent, or actively in process with documented proof).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education or a related field.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is highly preferred, or a demonstrated willingness to develop proficiency.
- Experience working with students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing across a range of ages, particularly PK-8th grade.
- Strong understanding of audiological information, hearing technologies (e.g., hearing aids, cochlear implants, FM systems), and their implications for learning.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic school environment.
