An opportunity is available for an experienced Teacher specializing in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education to support K-12 students in a school environment located in Chattanooga, TN. This contract position runs throughout the current school year and focuses on delivering specialized instruction tailored to the needs of students with hearing impairments.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing loss in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
- Utilize specialized teaching strategies and communication methods appropriate for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including speech therapists, audiologists, and general education teachers, to ensure comprehensive educational support.
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional approaches as necessary to meet academic and social goals.
- Provide training and support to staff and families regarding hearing loss and effective communication techniques.
- Assist with assistive listening device management and integration within the classroom.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing education.
- Experience working with K-12 Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
- Strong knowledge of communication methods such as American Sign Language (ASL), speech reading, and auditory training.
- Ability to create and adapt curriculum materials to fit diverse learning needs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with students, families, and educational professionals.
