What You’ll Be Doing
As a school-based Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Chesapeake, VA, you’ll provide direct and consultative services to students with hearing impairments across various school settings. Your work will include assessing students’ needs, implementing individualized educational plans (IEPs), collaborating with school staff and families, and ensuring that each student receives access to a meaningful and effective education. Whether using ASL, assistive devices, or spoken language strategies, your instruction will promote communication, engagement, and academic success.
Qualifications and Licensure
To qualify for this role, candidates must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with a Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) endorsement. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a closely related field is required. Familiarity with IEP processes, strong communication skills, and experience working in a school-based environment are highly preferred. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is a plus.
