THE ROLE Virtual DHH teachers provide specialized instruction addressing the unique educational needs of students with hearing loss—typical assignments involve 35-37.5 hour weeks with caseloads of 40-50 students from kindergarten through eighth grade—your expertise supports language development, auditory training, literacy acquisition, and academic achievement through accessible digital platforms.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Develop and implement IEPs focused on communication and academic goals
- Provide direct instruction in reading, writing, language, and content areas
- Adapt curriculum and materials for visual learning and accessibility
- Integrate assistive technology, captioning, and visual supports
- Conduct assessments measuring language development and academic progress
- Collaborate with audiologists, SLPs, and educational teams
- Train general education teachers on deaf education strategies
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress
- Maintain detailed documentation and service logs
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS ? Valid Ohio teaching license with DHH endorsement ? Master's degree in deaf education or related field ? Two years minimum teaching experience with deaf/hard of hearing students ? Competence delivering specialized instruction virtually ? Knowledge of language acquisition in students with hearing loss ? Proficiency with assistive listening devices and classroom technology ? Home office with reliable internet and confidential space
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE ? Background with various communication approaches (oral, ASL, total communication) ? Experience working with cochlear implant users ? Bilingual capabilities or ASL fluency ? Virtual teaching background
