About the Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Role
As a school-based Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Coal Center, PA, you will provide specialized instruction and support to students with hearing loss to ensure access to the general education curriculum. Responsibilities include adapting instructional materials, supporting communication development, and collaborating with general education teachers and related service providers.
You may work with students individually or in small groups, consult with instructional teams, assist with IEP development and implementation, and support the use of assistive listening devices or communication strategies. This role requires strong collaboration skills and a student-centered approach focused on accessibility and educational equity.
Requirements for the Role
Candidates must meet Pennsylvania education, certification, and licensure requirements, including:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field

Active Pennsylvania Instructional I or II Teaching Certificate

Endorsement or certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (PK–12)

Knowledge of auditory and communication strategies for students with hearing loss

Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary school teams

Completion of Pennsylvania school district background check requirements

Prior school-based experience preferred
