VocoVision's Mission We connect Michigan schools with specialized educators who serve students with unique learning needs. Our DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing) teachers provide critical academic and language instruction to students with hearing loss through innovative virtual platforms.

The Role

  • Remote teaching position serving Michigan students
  • Caseload: approximately 45 students in grades K-12
  • 35-hour work week providing direct instruction and student support
  • Focus areas: language development, literacy skills, academic content, self-advocacy

Your Daily Work

Design and deliver engaging virtual lessons that build language proficiency and academic skills for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Provide targeted instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, and content areas with appropriate accommodations and modifications. Develop students' self-advocacy abilities so they can effectively communicate their needs in educational settings. Create visually rich learning experiences using digital tools, multimedia resources, and assistive technology. Monitor comprehension and adjust teaching strategies based on student response and progress data. Work closely with families to reinforce learning at home and support communication development. Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure students can access grade-level curriculum. Partner with related service providers including speech-language pathologists and audiologists. Attend IEP meetings and provide expertise on appropriate goals and services for students with hearing loss. Maintain accurate records of student progress and service delivery.

Credentials Required

Active Michigan teaching license with Deaf and Hard of Hearing endorsement • Master's degree in Deaf Education or related field • At least 2 years of school-based teaching experience with DHH students • Virtual teaching experience strongly preferred • Proficiency with video conferencing technology and online learning platforms • Knowledge of language acquisition for children with hearing loss • Understanding of various communication approaches (oral, total communication, bilingual-bicultural) • Skills in adapting curriculum and materials for visual learning • Strong technology integration abilities for assistive devices and educational software

Why This Matters

Students who are deaf or hard of hearing often face significant barriers to accessing quality education, particularly in rural or underserved areas. Virtual instruction expands their access to specialized teachers with DHH expertise. You'll make a direct impact on students' language development, academic achievement, and future opportunities. The remote format allows you to serve students across Michigan while maintaining the flexibility to design your optimal teaching environment.
