Interviewing for a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for School Year 2025-2026!

Location: Des Plaines, Illinois

Job Duties:

  • Onsite or Hybrid Schedule

  • Full-time or Part-time Hours Available 

  • Dates: ASAP - June 6, 2026

  • Hourly rate range at $45 per hour - based on experience level

  • Caseload

  • TBD on the number of students district-wide

  • Disabilities: Deaf/Deaf+

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, using appropriate communication methods such as American Sign Language (ASL), spoken language, or cued speech.

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student’s needs.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals to support students’ academic and social development.

  • Adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the unique learning needs of DHH students.

  • Utilize assistive technology and accommodations, such as FM systems, captioning, and visual supports, to enhance student learning.

  • Conduct assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

  • Provide guidance and resources to families to support their child’s education and communication needs.

  • Advocate for students’ needs within the school setting and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.


Must Haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education, DHH Education, or Special Education with a focus on DHH students; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Valid state teaching license or certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education, or Special Education with DHH endorsement.

  • Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods used in classroom instruction.

  • Solid understanding of instructional strategies, curriculum design, and available resources for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

  • Experience working with diverse learners and adapting instruction to meet individual student needs.
