Remote DHH Educator for Michigan Students | Detroit
Soliant places Deaf and Hard of Hearing specialists in virtual teaching roles across Michigan. We're seeking licensed DHH teachers who excel at providing specialized instruction through remote platforms while building strong relationships with students and families.
These positions generally serve 40-55 students from elementary through high school levels, with work weeks of 35-37.5 hours. You'll provide specialized instruction addressing the unique learning needs of students with hearing loss including language development, literacy instruction with DHH strategies, auditory skill development, speech reading and listening strategies, self-advocacy and disability awareness, social communication skills, and academic content with appropriate accommodations and modifications.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES ? Complete comprehensive assessments of language, literacy, and communication skills ? Develop IEPs with measurable goals addressing DHH-specific needs ? Deliver engaging virtual instruction tailored to visual learners and students using assistive technology ? Consult regularly with classroom teachers about deaf education accommodations ? Partner with audiologists and SLPs to coordinate comprehensive services ? Provide parent education about hearing loss and communication options ? Teach students proper care and use of amplification devices ? Monitor student equipment function and communicate with families about issues ? Adapt instructional materials for accessibility ? Track progress and adjust interventions based on data ? Maintain accurate documentation of all services and student outcomes
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS ? Valid Michigan Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing certification (non-negotiable) ? Master's degree in Deaf Education or Special Education with DHH emphasis (required) ? Two full years of teaching students with hearing loss in schools (required) ? Deep knowledge of language development in deaf/hard of hearing children ? Understanding of various communication philosophies and approaches in deaf education ? Technical knowledge of amplification systems and assistive listening devices ? Sign language proficiency appropriate to student population served ? Strong virtual teaching skills and comfort with educational technology ? Excellent collaboration and consultation abilities ? Professional home teaching environment with necessary technology
