Role Summary
We are seeking a certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) for a full-time position near Chicago, IL. In this role, you will provide specialized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they have full access to the curriculum and school environment.
Responsibilities
• Provide direct instruction based on students’ IEP goals
• Adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet individual needs
• Collaborate with general education teachers, interpreters, and support staff
• Monitor and assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed
• Support students' communication development, including the use of sign language, assistive technology, or spoken language, depending on individual needs
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to evaluation and planning
Requirements (Illinois)
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field
• Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Deaf/Hard of Hearing endorsement
• Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or other communication methods used by students
• Previous school-based experience preferred
