Teacher of the Deaf in Portland, ME
An opportunity is available for a skilled educator specializing in teaching students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing within a K-12 school setting. This contract role is based onsite in Portland, ME, and offers flexible hours ranging from part-time to full-time (20 to 37.5 hours per week) for the current school year. The position focuses on delivering specialized instruction and support to a diverse caseload of students.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing direct educational services tailored to the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
- Conducting thorough student assessments to monitor progress and inform instruction
- Developing, implementing, and reviewing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Participating actively in IEP meetings in collaboration with school teams, families, and related service providers
Desired qualifications:
- Valid Maine Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH) license
- Experience working with K-12 students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Strong understanding of communication modalities and instructional strategies appropriate for this population
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
