Remote Teacher for Deaf/Hard of Hearing Students | Grand Rapids, MI
Join VocoVision's team of specialized educators providing virtual instruction to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students throughout Michigan! This remote teaching position offers the chance to work with students across multiple grade levels, delivering individualized instruction that addresses both academic content and the unique communication needs of D/HH learners.
Position Details: You'll serve approximately 45 students in grades pre-K through 8th grade, working 35 hours per week from your home office. The role involves direct virtual instruction, IEP development and implementation, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and ongoing communication with families and support staff. You'll use specialized teaching strategies and visual supports to ensure students access the curriculum fully while developing their communication skills.
Core Teaching Responsibilities
Plan and deliver standards-based lessons adapted for D/HH students • Implement individualized education programs with fidelity • Assess student progress using formal and informal measures • Provide language support integrated into academic instruction • Collaborate with interpreters and educational audiologists • Adapt materials to ensure visual accessibility • Conduct virtual parent conferences and training • Participate in IEP meetings and eligibility conferences • Maintain detailed records of student progress and services • Utilize assistive technology and captioning effectively
Required Credentials
You must hold a current Michigan teaching license with Deaf and Hard of Hearing endorsement, have earned a Master's degree, and bring at least 2 years of experience teaching D/HH students in educational settings. Strong communication skills—both in working with students using their preferred communication methods and in collaborating with hearing colleagues and parents—are essential. Your understanding of deaf education pedagogy, deaf culture, and best practices for language development in D/HH students will be crucial to your success.
Technical Needs: Dependable high-speed internet, private teaching space, computer with excellent audio/video quality, and familiarity with virtual learning management systems.
