Position Overview:
New Orleans public schools are seeking a qualified and dedicated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHHT) for the 2025–2026 school year. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with hearing impairments in a variety of settings (inclusive, resource, or self-contained)
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address students’ language, communication, academic, and social-emotional needs
- Adapt curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of students
- Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers, speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and other support staff
- Provide training and guidance to school staff on hearing loss, accommodations, assistive technology, and communication strategies
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation and compliance with special education regulations
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field
- Valid Louisiana teaching certification in Hearing Impairments or eligibility to obtain certification by the start of the school year
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing, including knowledge of amplification devices, FM systems, and sign language
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with IDEA, IEP development, and progress monitoring
- Hourly pay rate: Starting at $45/hour, based on experience and credentials
