VocoVision is seeking a qualified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to provide specialized instruction and support to students in virtual learning environments. This remote position offers the opportunity to utilize your expertise in deaf education while enjoying flexible work arrangements.
Position Overview
We're offering both full-time and part-time opportunities for dedicated DHH professionals. You'll provide direct instruction, language development support, and consultation services to students with hearing loss across various grade levels, working collaboratively with families and educational teams through virtual platforms.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction in language and literacy development
- Deliver direct academic instruction adapted for students with hearing loss
- Develop and implement language-rich learning experiences
- Support students' development of communication skills in their preferred modality
- Conduct educational assessments and progress monitoring
- Adapt curriculum materials for accessibility
- Collaborate with audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and interpreters
- Provide consultation to general education teachers regarding accommodations
- Participate in IEP development and educational planning meetings
- Monitor and support use of assistive listening devices and technology
- Facilitate parent education regarding deaf education and language development
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Deaf Education or related field
- Active Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing certification in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of experience teaching students with hearing loss in school settings
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (for students using sign communication)
- Knowledge of language development in children with hearing loss
- Understanding of various communication modalities and philosophies
- Strong curriculum adaptation skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Experience with virtual instruction delivery
- Self-motivated and organized for remote work environment
Technology Requirements
- Reliable high-speed internet connection
- Professional workspace for virtual instruction with appropriate lighting for sign language visibility
- Computer with high-quality webcam and audio
- Familiarity with assistive listening technology
