Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher - Remote Position in Lansing, MI
VocoVision provides specialized educational services to Michigan schools, including dedicated support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. We're seeking qualified DHH teachers to deliver virtual instruction that develops language, literacy, and academic skills for students with hearing loss.
Position Overview: This remote DHH teacher position typically serves 40-50 students across K-8 grade levels, working 36 hours weekly. You'll provide direct instruction in a virtual classroom environment, focusing on language development, reading comprehension, written expression, mathematics, and content area subjects. Your students will use various communication modalities including spoken language with amplification, sign language, or simultaneous communication depending on individual needs and family preferences.
Primary Responsibilities: Develop and implement individualized lesson plans addressing IEP goals and state academic standards • Provide explicit instruction in English language development, phonics, vocabulary, and reading comprehension strategies • Teach self-advocacy skills so students can communicate their needs and access accommodations • Monitor student progress through ongoing assessment and data collection • Adapt general education curriculum to ensure accessibility for students with hearing loss • Utilize visual supports, captioning, assistive technology, and other accommodations to support learning • Collaborate with speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and general education teachers • Communicate regularly with families about student progress and strategies for home support • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise on educational programming for students with hearing loss • Stay current on best practices in deaf education and assistive technology
Required Qualifications: Must hold active Michigan Deaf and Hard of Hearing teaching endorsement or license. Master's degree required along with minimum 2 years of school-based teaching experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Strong virtual teaching skills with ability to create engaging online learning experiences. Proficiency with video conferencing platforms, learning management systems, and assistive technology for students with hearing loss. Knowledge of language development for children with hearing loss and evidence-based instructional strategies. Excellent communication skills for working with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams in a virtual environment.
