An opportunity is available for a skilled Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to provide specialized support within an elementary school setting in the Virginia Beach area. This position is full-time (35 hours per week) and spans the contract school year, from December 1, 2025, to June 16, 2026. The role requires on-site presence; remote or hybrid arrangements are not offered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored instructional support to a small caseload of eight students, ranging from kindergarten through fifth grade, who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Collaborate closely with district staff to implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that meet students’ communication and learning needs.
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly to promote academic and social development.
- Participate in team meetings and provide consultative services to general education teachers and support staff.
- Manage caseload duties at the district center location, ensuring a focused and consistent learning environment.
Qualifications:
- Active Virginia Department of Education teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education (provisional certification accepted).
- Experience working with elementary-aged children (K-5) who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Strong knowledge of communication methods and educational strategies effective for this population.
- Commitment to on-site service delivery with the ability to work independently in a specialized setting.
