Job Overview – What You’ll Do:

Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in individual or group settings

Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s communication needs
-
Utilize sign language, oral communication, or total communication approaches as needed
-
Collaborate with general education teachers, audiologists, and speech-language pathologists
-
Monitor student progress, maintain accurate documentation, and participate in IEP meetings
-
Educate school staff and families on strategies to support hearing-impaired learners
Qualifications & Requirements (California):
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field

Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential – DHH Authorization
-
ASL proficiency (if applicable based on student needs)
-
Strong understanding of hearing loss, amplification devices, and communication strategies
-
Previous experience in school settings preferred
-
Excellent communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills
