Job Overview – What You’ll Do
-
Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in individual or group settings
-
Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s communication needs
-
Utilize ASL, oral communication, or total communication approaches as needed
-
Collaborate with general education teachers, audiologists, and speech-language pathologists
-
Monitor student progress, maintain accurate documentation, and participate in IEP meetings
-
Support school staff and families with strategies to help hearing-impaired learners succeed
Qualifications & Requirements (California)
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field
-
Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential – DHH Authorization
-
ASL proficiency (when required by student needs)
-
Knowledge of hearing loss, amplification devices, and communication strategies
-
School-based experience preferred
-
Strong communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills
