Job Overview – What You’ll Do

  • Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing in individual or group settings

  • Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student’s communication needs

  • Utilize ASL, oral communication, or total communication approaches as needed

  • Collaborate with general education teachers, audiologists, and speech-language pathologists

  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate documentation, and participate in IEP meetings

  • Support school staff and families with strategies to help hearing-impaired learners succeed

Qualifications & Requirements (California)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field

  • Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential – DHH Authorization

  • ASL proficiency (when required by student needs)

  • Knowledge of hearing loss, amplification devices, and communication strategies

  • School-based experience preferred

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills
