Empowering Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students Through Virtual Learning
We're seeking a dedicated Deaf and Hard of Hearing teacher to join our remote education network, providing specialized instruction to students with hearing impairments across Ohio school districts. This position offers the flexibility of working from home while delivering high-quality educational services that support student success and communication development.
Position Overview
Schedule: 36-37.5 hours weekly Student Population: Ages 5-18 with varying degrees of hearing loss Class Size: 15-35 students in mixed-age groupings Delivery Method: Interactive virtual classrooms with visual communication emphasis Curriculum Focus: Language development, academic support, deaf culture education, and communication skill enhancement
Primary Responsibilities
Design and deliver comprehensive educational programs that address the unique learning needs of deaf and hard of hearing students. You'll create visually engaging lesson plans that incorporate American Sign Language, develop individualized communication goals, and provide academic support across core subject areas. Collaboration with interpreters, audiologists, and families is essential to ensure consistent communication strategies. Regular assessment of language development and academic progress guides instructional planning and IEP implementation.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Deaf Education or related educational field
- Valid Ohio DHH teaching license with current certification
- Minimum 2 years of classroom experience with deaf and hard of hearing students
- Fluency in American Sign Language with strong receptive and expressive skills
- Knowledge of deaf culture and communication methodologies
- Experience with hearing assistive technology and FM systems
- Proven ability to adapt curriculum for visual learners
Virtual Teaching Specifications
This remote position requires expertise in visual communication methods and familiarity with video-based instruction platforms. Candidates should have experience creating visual learning materials and conducting sign language instruction through digital mediums. A professional workspace with optimal lighting for sign language visibility is essential.
