About the Role

Working with approximately 45-60 students across diverse grade levels, you'll dedicate 37.5 hours weekly to specialized DHH instruction. Your work encompasses comprehensive language and literacy development using strategies proven effective for deaf/hard of hearing learners, direct instruction addressing communication goals, consultation services to classroom teachers and school teams, family support and education regarding hearing loss and communication, coordination with audiologists and related service providers, assistive technology training and monitoring, assessment using tools appropriate for DHH populations, and IEP development and implementation specific to hearing loss needs.

Key Duties Include: Conducting language and communication assessments | Creating detailed IEPs with goals targeting language delays and academic gaps | Teaching reading and writing using specialized DHH methodologies | Providing vocabulary and concept development instruction | Supporting students in developing self-advocacy and communication strategies | Educating students about their hearing loss and amplification systems | Consulting with general education staff on classroom accommodations | Collaborating with SLPs on articulation and language objectives | Working with families to support communication at home | Monitoring function of hearing aids, cochlear implants, and FM systems | Adapting curriculum materials for visual accessibility | Documenting services and maintaining compliance records | Participating in ongoing professional learning in deaf education

Qualifications Required: Current New Mexico Deaf and Hard of Hearing Teacher license (mandatory requirement). Master's degree in Deaf Education or related special education concentration (required). Minimum two years teaching deaf/hard of hearing students in K-12 educational settings (required). Expert knowledge of language acquisition and literacy development in children with hearing loss. Understanding of audiology basics and hearing technology. Sign language competency if serving students who sign. Experience with remote/virtual instruction delivery. Strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with diverse stakeholders. Reliable technical infrastructure for conducting online instruction including high-speed internet and quality audio-visual equipment.
