About the Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Role
In this role, you will support students with hearing impairments by providing specialized instruction, modifying curriculum materials, and supporting communication access within the classroom. You will collaborate closely with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other service providers to ensure student needs are met.
Responsibilities may include participation in IEP meetings, consultation with school staff, monitoring student progress, and supporting the use of assistive technology. This position is ideal for educators who are passionate about accessibility, inclusion, and student advocacy.
Requirements for the Role
Candidates must meet Pennsylvania education and certification requirements, including:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or a related field

Active Pennsylvania Instructional Teaching Certificate

Certification or endorsement in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (PK–12)

Knowledge of communication modalities and instructional strategies
