Job Title: Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH)
Location: Seattle, WA
Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and qualified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) to join our school team in Seattle, WA. This educator will provide specialized instruction and support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring equitable access to the general education curriculum. The ideal candidate will collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to promote student success, communication access, and inclusive learning environments.

Key Responsibilities
-
Deliver direct and consultative educational services to students with hearing loss as outlined in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).

Conduct assessments to determine academic levels, communication needs, and appropriate instructional strategies.

Design and implement individualized lesson plans using each student’s preferred communication mode (e.g., auditory-oral, ASL, total communication).

Support the development of language, auditory, and academic skills to promote overall student achievement.

Collaborate with general and special education teachers to adapt curriculum materials and classroom environments for accessibility.

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, contributing to IEP development, progress monitoring, and reviews.

Provide family support and education to help parents advocate for their child’s communication and educational needs.

Offer training to school staff on hearing loss awareness, assistive technology, and classroom accommodations.

Monitor and maintain the functionality of hearing equipment (hearing aids, FM/DM systems, cochlear implants).

Travel between school sites as needed to provide services.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Deaf Education or Special Education (DHH focus).

Valid DHH teaching certification issued by the appropriate state agency.

Knowledge of communication modalities such as ASL, Cued Speech, or auditory-oral methods.

ASL proficiency preferred (may be required based on assignment).

Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.

Experience working with diverse learners preferred.
