Opportunity: We are actively seeking two highly qualified and passionate Teachers of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) or Special Education Teachers to join our DHH Program for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. These positions offer a unique opportunity to work with students with hearing loss in supportive classroom environments, benefiting from extensive on-site interpreter assistance and a collaborative team.
Caseload: High School (DHH Program) or Middle School (DHH Program)
Responsibilities:

Provide specialized instruction and support to students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing within the DHH Program classrooms.

Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to the unique academic, social, and developmental needs of students with hearing loss.

Collaborate closely with general education teachers, interpreters, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and other support staff to ensure a comprehensive and integrated learning experience.

Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to meet diverse learning styles and communication needs of DHH students.

Utilize and integrate assistive technology and communication strategies (e.g., American Sign Language, spoken language, visual aids) effectively.

Monitor and document student progress, maintaining accurate records and preparing reports as required.

Participate actively in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team discussions.

Foster a positive, inclusive, and accessible learning environment that promotes student independence and self-advocacy.

Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education and special education.
Qualifications:

Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement in Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH) or a Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBSI) endorsement.

Experience working with students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing is highly preferred.

Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred, or a willingness to develop proficiency.

Strong understanding of child development, assessment, and instructional strategies for students with diverse learning needs, particularly those with hearing loss.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
