Job Title: DHH Teacher or ESA Specialist (Aural Habilitation)

Location: Tacoma, WA
Start Date: ASAP
End Date: June 16, 2026
Schedule: Full-Time | 37.5 hours/week
Setting: Onsite Only


Position Overview:

We are seeking a qualified and collaborative Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) or Educational Staff Associate (ESA) with experience in aural habilitation to provide direct services to students with hearing loss. The successful candidate will support students in both special education and general education environments, working across the continuum of services to meet individual student needs.

This is a full-time, onsite position serving students in the Tacoma, WA area.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with hearing loss, including aural habilitation strategies

  • Collaborate with general and special education staff to adapt instruction

  • Participate in IEP meetings and support development and implementation of individualized education plans

  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams

  • Monitor student progress and maintain compliant documentation

  • Support inclusion in the general education setting through accommodations and specialized instruction


Minimum Requirements:

  • Active Washington State Teaching Certificate with an appropriate Deaf Education or Special Education Endorsement

  • Experience in aural habilitation

  • Fingerprint clearance through OSPI (Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction)

  • Strong collaboration, communication, and teaming skills

  • Prior experience working with students with hearing loss in a school setting


Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Valid WA teaching certificate with Deaf Education endorsement

  2. Demonstrated knowledge and ability to teach core academic subjects in alignment with NCLB (No Child Left Behind) "highly qualified" requirements

  3. Previous special education teaching experience

  4. Effective team player who contributes to school-wide efforts to meet diverse student needs

  5. Experience working collaboratively with staff and families

  6. Strong knowledge of:

  7. Research-based instructional practices

  8. Current laws and regulations related to special education and students with hearing loss


Compensation for this position ranges from $30.00 to $60.33. Eligible candidates may also receive healthcare benefits, housing, and meals/incidentals. Full details of our healthcare benefits plan can be found here. This posting is open for 60 days after the posting date.
