DHH Teacher | Kent, Washington
This full-time, contract position offers an opportunity to serve as a Teacher of the Deaf / Hard of Hearing for students in grades K-12 within a public school setting in the Tacoma, WA area. The role begins as soon as possible and is expected to continue through March 2023, with the potential for extension through the full school year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction tailored to Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, ensuring access to the general education curriculum
- Utilize American Sign Language (ASL) fluency to effectively communicate and support student learning
- Collaborate with school staff and families to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly
- Support students’ social, emotional, and academic growth in a nurturing environment
Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State certifications for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) and Special Education (SPED)
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience working with K-12 students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic educational environment
Location: Tacoma, Washington
Assignment: Leave replacement at an elementary school within the district
Work Schedule: Full-time, approximately 1.0 FTE
Interview Process: Conducted via Zoom panel interview
