Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Chesapeake, VA
A full-time opportunity is available for a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing to support K-5 students in an elementary school setting within the Virginia Beach area. This contract position offers a caseload of 8 students, all located at the district center, providing a focused and impactful educational environment.
Location: Chesapeake, VA
Job Duration: Contract through June 16, 2026
Schedule: Full-Time, 35 hours per week
Students: Kindergarten through 5th grade (8 students)
Qualifications:
- Active Virginia DOE teaching certification in Deaf/Hard of Hearing education
- Ability to effectively communicate and deliver specialized instruction tailored to students with hearing impairments
- Experience working with elementary-aged children, preferably within a school district setting
- Valid and current VA credentialing with no additional requirements beyond standard certification
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and support to students with hearing loss, enhancing their access to the general education curriculum
- Collaborate with district staff and families to develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed to support learning goals
- Utilize appropriate assistive technologies and communication methods to optimize learning
- Maintain documentation and comply with all district and state requirements
